Hanseatic city Deventer is about 18 km from Sallandshoeve
At the first place the museaums: the Historical Museum Deventer and the nationally known Speelgoedmuseum of Deventer (child's toys). But there is more, to much to visit in just one day: the Grote of Lebuïnuskerk with its impressive tower, the beautiful historical town hall, the Bergkwartier, the Noordenbergkwartier, the Broederenkerk, the Etty Hillesum Centrum, the Vogeleiland, and so on.
And there is the IJssel again; Deventer is a special city because of its unique location of the city by the river. A visit to Deventer is certainly also a visit to relax at the IJssel. With the ferry you are in a couple minutes at the other side, and in the middle of another beautiful nature area (the Worpplantsoen and the Ossenwaard). Also the restaurated Bolwerksmolen is opposite the IJssel.
In the last thirty years, Deventer has done a lot to restore and preserve the historical city center. The old street pattern is almost entirely intact. Hundreds of monuments have been restored and often provided with new cutting frames or facing bricks. The neighborhood the Bergkwartier is one big monument. But there are certainly also newly built houses, sometimes in connection with the historical environment, sometimes also completely innovative.
Biscuit and Deventer
Drs. P. writes in 1980 in a verse about Deventer cake the rules:
andere steden creëren jenever, balletjes, gloeilampen, kaarsen of kant. Hier evenwel als goedwillend gever, sta je met Deventer koek in de hand!
Deventer and the biscuits are inseparable linked. The link between a delicacy and a city is nowhere as prominent as in Deventer. That close connection can be explained because of the long history of the ''Deventer koek". The history of this unique spicy product is explained which will show why the city of Deventer proudly presents itself as a 'koek city'.
